May–Thurner syndrome caused by a huge uterine myoma

چکیده
May–Thurner syndrome (or iliocaval compression syndrome) is defined as a compression of the iliac vein that results in decreased flow in the vein and the left lower extremity due to a vascular malformation. It may result in left leg edema, pain, iliofemoral DVT, and postthrombotic syndrome. Compression of the left common iliac vein by the right common iliac artery against the underlying fifth lumbar vertebra is the typical underlying malformation [1,2]. It is rarely diagnosed but is prevalent in postmortem examinations. Hence, it is thought to be underestimated. Various conditions resulting in compression of the left common iliac vein by the right common iliac artery and underlying spine which lead to the development of left femoral DVT have been reported, including prolonged immobilization, dehydration, contractive therapy, surgical procedures for abdominal, gynecological, or spinal pathology, multiple pregnancies, and postpartum conditions [2-6]. However, May– Thurner syndrome secondary to a huge uterine myoma has not been reported previously.

Urethrovaginal fistula following vaginal prolapse of a pedunculated uterine myoma: a case report
BACKGROUND Urethrovaginal fistulas are usually secondary to a foreign body in the vagina or to vaginal gynecologic surgeries. We present a case of an urethrovaginal fistula secondary to vaginal prolapse of a huge pedunculated submucosal uterine myoma. CASE PRESENTATION A 25-year-old black African woman with a past history of huge uterine fibroids and an uncomplicated vaginal delivery 5 weeks ...
متن کاملبررسی ارتباط پلیمورفیسم درجی/ حذفی ژن ACE و ابتلا به لیومیومای رحمی در زنان ایرانی
Introduction: Uterine leiomyomas arise from the proliferation of smooth muscle cells. ACE gene encodes a convertase enzyme mainly secreted in vascular endothelial cells which is involved in the renin–angiotensin system and blood pressure controlling. This gene has an insertion/deletion (I/D) polymorphism correlates to serum and tissue ACE levels. The aim of this study is to elucidate the ...
متن کاملTorsion of a parasitic myoma that developed after abdominal myomectomy
Iatrogenic parasitic myomas are rare. The condition is defined by the presence of multiple smooth-muscle tumorous nodules in the peritoneal cavity. This may be attributable to seeding of myoma particles during uterine surgery. The clinical course is usually indolent. The disease is often asymptomatic and is usually discovered only incidentally. A 38-year-old woman who had undergone abdominal my...

متن کاملMay-Thurner syndrome, an uncommon diagnosis for a common disease: a case report and review of the literature
May-Turner syndrome is a relatively uncommon anatomical variation in which patients develop iliofemoral deep vein thrombosis (DVT) due to venous occlusion. In this syndrome, the left common iliac vein is compressed against the fifth lumbar vertebra by the right common iliac artery. The real incidence/prevalence of May-Turner syndrome is not precisely known, but it is estimated to be between 22 ...
